Darrath'tarria

West of the Neverfields are two islands. The bigger one to the north is called Darrath, the word for "sacred". The smaller one to the south is called Tarria, the word for "earth". The folk living on both islands consider themselves to be of one nation, "Darrath'tarria".

From a Tal'Dorei point of view, Darrath'tarria is seen as a province, although the people of Darrath'tarria do not consider themselves to be a part of the Republic of Tal'Dorei. They have their own sovereignty and political system and defend themselves fiercely against any outside influence.

Some residents even still use the name "Gwessar" to refer to the continent. Tal'Dorei is everything south of Tarria and the Neverfields for them.

There is a lot of weird magic on Darrath'tarria, places where the border between the elemental planes and the material plane is thin. Spots of corrupted magic that unpredictably won't always stay in the same area and may even alter the surroundings and affect creatures.

Darrath

The climate on Darrath is a little more tempered, sub-arctic, just enough for hardy trees to exist. There exists a special sort of tree called “lambent larch” whose needles are bioluminescent. The needles only start growing at the end of spring, when they will glow a dim firefly green until they shine blue in summer. Over autumn the glow will turn cyan. At the end of autumn, the needles, including the surrounding branches, will become frozen in a thick layer of ice and gradually lose their glow over winter. When the ice melts, the tree loses all of its needles with it.

There is a lot of weird flora on Darrath, and it’s said to be due to wild magic or primordial influence.

There is also an ancient forest with very large trees that have big partially uncovered roots. A part of this forest is specifically used as a temporary burial ground and called “Garden of Rest”. Unless it’s for the burial rites, entering the forest is forbidden as to not disturb the dead.

The same is also true for it’s fauna. A lot of dangerous creatures roam the waters surrounding the islands and also stalk the islands. While some elemental beings co-exist peacefully with the people of Darrath’tarria, some of them share the old titans’ views and despise the presence of “the gods’ creations” on the islands. Sometimes these beings even take control over or corrupt lower beasts and animals to make them attack the settlements.

Tarria

Interestingly, the southern island Tarria is a lot more barren than it’s northern big sister. Tarria consists of mostly rocky terrain and carpets of moss, berry bushes and lichens, small shrubs but no trees due to a lack of nutritious soil and strong winds. Spots of permafrost and glaciers cover the island and the highest mountain plateau in the center is always covered in snow.
